On May 5, the Massachusetts Senate Committee on Ways & Means released its FY27 budget recommendations. Included was $51 million for the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation (MLAC, line item 0321-1600). This represents level funding for the MLAC line item.
Your advocacy now is critical. State Senator Lydia Edwards has filed Amendment #889 to increase MLAC funding in the Senate Budget by $1 million, to reach a total of $52 million for FY27. Please contact your state senator today with this form and urge them to: (1) co-sponsor Amendment #889; and (2) communicate their support for the amendment to Senate leadership.
This form connects you with your senator and provides a template email message. If you wish, personalize your message with a brief sentence about why you support more civil legal aid funding. Just sign your name and click submit! A minute of your time will have a huge impact.
